“My racing season is over, I just had my first serious crash yesterday. I was coming down a rural road with 3 others at about 30mph, when I saw something dash out onto the road. Before I knew anything I was tumbling.

I am the first guy to take responsibility or say an accident could have been avoided, but in this case not. I have thought about this a lot in the last 24 hours and have to chalk it up to a freak accident because.. Instant death via bladed spokes. Squirrel trying to go through my fork was what caused the front lock up. Initial impact cracked my helmet and I got a gash on my temple, required 8 stitches. WEAR YOUR HELMET KIDS. Do not want to think what would have happened without one.

I was about to start tapering for the 3 major road races coming up, oh well. I am alive and will need surgery for my busted collar bone. Looks like I will be stuck on the trainer for a while.” -Russian Bear

Race #17 - Speed Week #7
And 50 kilometers later…
My first Speed Week is done and dusted. As you can see Alex left some skin in Georgia today. Over the week I broke three wheels. Collectively we punctured a handful of tubular tires. We’re beat but happy. Two guys in the top ten and two more finishing in the money on the overall. With individual stage results and primes we’re driving home with some spending money in our pockets.
Today was another really hard and hot day. With six corners and an uphill start/finish straight the race was lined out from start to finish. Somebody won. A bunch of people got dropped. I did neither. Time to drive.
No sleep till Brooklyn…
